Bakker Diamonds is not short on genuine expertise. From its Fortitude Valley studio, the business offers handcrafted engagement rings and custom jewellery backed by Peter Bakker’s more than 40 years of experience.
That is a compelling story. The opportunity is to make the website communicate it as powerfully to prospective customers, Google and AI search platforms as Peter does in person.
In this 13-minute jewellery SEO audit, I examine how Bakker Diamonds could strengthen its homepage, engagement and wedding ring pages, website architecture, imagery, content and wider online authority.
This is an initial strategic review rather than a complete technical SEO audit. It reflects the website as it appeared when the video was recorded, and changes may have been made since then.
Jewellery SEO is exceptionally competitive. Searches such as “engagement rings Brisbane”, “custom engagement rings” and “wedding rings Brisbane” place independent jewellers against established specialists and national retailers with mature websites, strong backlink profiles and years of accumulated authority.
Repeating a target keyword in headings is not enough to compete.
A successful jewellery website needs to do two jobs at once. It must give search engines a clear understanding of every product, service and area of expertise, while giving couples the confidence and excitement to book a consultation.
These are the seven largest opportunities identified during my review.
The homepage currently leads with direct phrases such as “custom engagement rings in Brisbane”. That may describe the service, but an engagement ring is an emotional and highly considered purchase. The opening experience needs to do more than state a keyword.
Bakker Diamonds could retain its search relevance while using more aspirational language, such as:
Handcrafted engagement rings, made in Brisbane for your story.
That message could be supported by a high-resolution photograph or short video of Peter working at the bench, an exceptional finished ring and a concise explanation of the private, one-on-one design experience.
SEO may bring someone to the website. Emotion, presentation and trust are what turn that visit into an enquiry.
The most valuable differentiator is not a keyword. It is Peter.
Customers can work directly with an experienced manufacturing jeweller and diamond expert rather than a retail salesperson. That point of difference should be unmistakable within the first screen of the homepage and reinforced across the website.
The site should prominently communicate:
Original photographs, workshop footage and videos featuring Peter would help prospective customers understand who they are trusting. They would also give Google and AI platforms clearer first-hand evidence of the expertise behind the business.
The engagement and wedding ring sections need a richer visual experience. Someone selecting a ring page should immediately see the possibilities—not face a large block of generic text before seeing the jewellery.
Each significant design should have its own page, even if Bakker Diamonds does not sell jewellery through a traditional online checkout.
A useful design page could include:
This would create a stronger browsing experience while allowing Bakker Diamonds to appear for detailed searches that a single gallery page cannot target effectively.
The greatest long-term SEO opportunity is a carefully planned information architecture: the hierarchy of pages, URLs and internal links that helps people and search engines navigate the site.
The engagement ring section could expand into genuinely useful pages organised by:
Wedding rings, diamond jewellery, coloured gemstone jewellery and other commercially valuable categories can be developed in the same considered way.
The diamond education content also deserves a logical hub with dedicated pages for cut, colour, clarity and carat. Each link should lead to the precise subject a visitor selected instead of sending every topic to the same general page.
Importantly, diamond carat content should discuss diamond weight, while 9ct, 14ct and 18ct gold belong within metal education. Separating those concepts prevents confusion and creates clearer search intent.
Pages should only be created where Bakker Diamonds can offer unique, valuable content and relevant examples. Producing dozens of thin, nearly identical pages would undermine the strategy.
Several areas of the site repeat similar blocks of copy. Every primary page should instead answer the specific questions a customer is likely to have about that category.
A wedding rings page, for example, should discuss matching a wedding ring to an engagement ring, metal choices, profiles, widths, comfort, customisation and the design process. It should also show actual wedding rings immediately.
Language should consistently use Australian English, including “jewellery” rather than the American “jewelry”. Google can generally understand both spellings, but consistent local language improves polish, audience alignment and keyword targeting for an Australian jeweller.
Shorter, descriptive URLs would also make the structure easier for customers and search engines to understand.
Jewellery is visual. Bakker Diamonds’ website should feel as refined as the pieces Peter creates.
High-resolution photography, polished CAD renders, stronger page layouts and galleries demonstrating the breadth of possible designs would immediately improve the experience.
Customer testimonials should also be checked carefully, as the testimonial display appeared broken during the recorded review.
Every important page should give visitors a clear next step, whether that is viewing related designs, learning about diamonds or booking a private consultation with Peter.
Conversion optimisation is not a substitute for SEO, but traffic has limited commercial value when the website does not build desire and confidence.
New pages alone will not be enough in a competitive jewellery market. Bakker Diamonds also needs stronger signals of authority from beyond its own website.
Peter’s experience could support genuinely useful content about diamond selection, ring design, pricing considerations, gemstone choices, jewellery trends and the custom manufacturing process.
Video should play a major role because it allows customers to see and hear the expert they will meet.
Digital PR can then turn that expertise into editorial coverage and relevant links. Timely commentary about celebrity engagement rings, diamond trends or major jewellery stories can help journalists discover Peter as a knowledgeable source.
The goal is not to accumulate random backlinks. It is to earn relevant mentions from publications that strengthen the reputation of Bakker Diamonds with customers, Google and AI discovery platforms.

The work could be prioritised in three stages.
Bakker Diamonds already has what cannot be manufactured by an SEO campaign: decades of genuine knowledge, craftsmanship and personal service.
The website now needs to become a more complete digital expression of that expertise.
The biggest opportunity is not to force more keywords onto existing pages. It is to build a beautiful, useful and authoritative jewellery resource around how customers search, what they need to know and why they should trust Peter to create one of the most meaningful purchases of their lives.
